Alone Together

Updated: Feb 22, 2020

Before creating this website, I was thinking of making an App to alert a "buddy" if something bad may have happened - in the same way that your credit card company may send you a fraud alert to check if a transaction was legit. As part of the research for that I was recommended a book entitled "Alone Together".

So, I went on Amazon and found that there was two books with the same name. One on how technology is making us be "alone together" and one on what it was like to be part of an Asperger marriage.

It struck me as quite interesting that the being in an Asperger marriage where one individual is less tuned to the other's emotional state, quite factual and not needing constant social interaction, is essentially the way the world is going, where we rely less and less on each other and more on technology.

Will it be an advantage to be on spectrum in the future? More comfortable engaging with technology than with each other and not needing other individuals to support our emotional well being?

So, I've scrapped the app idea... instead now I'm trying to stress the fact that we should be relying more on each other and making a point of having social interactions! There is more at stake than we can yet understand...
